Tehya Maxwell

The artist behind the art

Hello! My name is Tehya Maxwell; pronounced Tay-Uh (I know, it's tricky lol).
First off, thank you so much for sharing an interest in me and my artwork.

My passion for drawing started at the ripe age of three. My first intentional art piece was a portrait of my Doodle Bear on a napkin. Adorable, I know. From then on, I had this undying urge to pursue art. Fueled by my father, who never let my artwork feel like anything less than spectacular, I felt so proud. I would draw him new artwork every week, and he kept them all to track my growth as I got older.

Unfortunately, my dad passed away when I was young. It made making artwork feel incredibly different, causing me to fall out of it—but never fully. Even if I wasn't drawing, I was crafting or creating in some fashion.

That was until I decided to go to my local career center in high school, and that unlocked it all for me again. I started there my junior year, and shortly after turning 18, I wanted a tattoo in memoriam of my dad. That’s how I met Chris Powell.

I searched tirelessly for hours trying to find a local artist, and I was floored when I saw Chris's work—I didn’t even know realism and tattoos could collide. I got my first tattoo from Chris, which led to an apprenticeship. And here I am, three years later, still pursuing my passion—creating artwork for the most incredible clients.

Tattooing made me realize it wasn’t my dad saying my artwork was good that made me feel purposeful. It was giving the art to someone who loved it that felt good. Now I’m blessed to do it for a living, thanks to clients like you.

If you made it this far; thank you for reading my story! Here are three fun facts!
